The thing is definitely beneath them, and more than that, its wrapped its arms around the first few boards of the dock, cutting them off from the shoreline.
With one more shuddered gasp of creaking wood, the connecting portion of the dock collapses and Wei Wuxian takes hold of Shijie's waist again, temporarily letting Suibian fall to his side as he jumps and twists in the air, landing with her further away from the broken section of the dock and immediately taking up his defensive stance again.
Shit. It's not so far that he can't jump it, but Shijie can't, and if he takes her with him, he won't be able to defend the both of them in midair. There's Suibian, as an option, but he's never taken a second person on his sword before and risks falling into the water which isn't exactly an option right now.
