[Damian isn't there at the time he'd said he'd meet Barnes. It's not necessarily a bad sign, but it is completely out of character. On the few occasions where the two of them set an actual time and place to meet, he was always punctual if not early, leaving a message for Barnes if something came up. There is no message this time. No message and no Robin.
In his defense, he had been on his way to the agreed upon meeting area with every intention of arriving there five minutes ahead of Barnes. Unfirtunately he'd only made it a few blocks into the ruins before being...distracted.
He isn't surprised to hear the familiar footfalls that he'd long ago memorized as those of Barnes, but he doesn't look up from his spot in the dirt alleyway between the crumbling remains of two buildings even at Barnes' approach. Instead he remains sitting on the ground, his cape pulled forward to conceal what he holds in his hands beneath the material.]
[ Buck gives him five minutes, though Damian would probably scold him for getting soft, and goes off in search of him. There's a lot that happens here; he knows Damian can handle it, but there's always a message. Always. ]
Hey, Robin?
[ The crouch isn't one of injury, and that lowers his hackles. ]
[In answer, something shifts in Damian's arms, mewing loudly and then carefully poking its head out to investigate the new arrival. Damian readjusts the kitten gently to bring her further into view while trying not to compromise the security she clearly feels hidden in Robin's cape.]
I found her. [The words are quiet, a touch of awe clearly present.]
You found — [ and then he actually sees the kitten, and his own expression softens considerably ] hey there, darlin', what're you doing out here alone, huh?
[ He bends and reaches out, gently scritching her behind her ear. ]
[The kitten sniffs at the offered hand before nosing at Bucky's fingers and arching appreciatively as she makes her way further out of her sanctuary. Damian's eyes follow her path to the tip of his boot where she perches, an alarmingly soft smile taking over his expression.]
Do you think we can find cat food? [He frowns.] Kitten food actually. [It's likely they can find something she'd eat fairly easily, it's whether or not they can find something healthy for her that's a larger concern. Especially long term. If she's here in Haven, then she'd need a home and a steady food supply. Perhaps he can try scavenging for animal food later. They were canned after all, right?]
[ The softness and care in Damian's expression isn't lost on him, but he's not going to draw attention to it. The kid would likely become self-conscious. Instead, Bucky scratches the kitten's ear. She's very pleased about the attention, and purrs. ]
She's gonna need liquid food — she's pretty small. C'mon. Let's get her a nice cushion or a box to sleep in.
[ Perceptible to anyone who's not looking. Buck doubt he fully intends to ask around at all — he'll make discrete inquiries. There can't be that many cat owners here, and ultimately... there's too many monsters around here even to absolve this sweet kitten of it completely. It's Haven. Yao likes to screw with things. ]
Later. Let's get her checked out, make sure she's healthy. Korra should be at the clinic.
Alright. [The clinic is a good idea. Even if he believes the kitten to be well, it is definitely better to get someone like Korra to take a look.
Snug with Damian carrying her, the kitten decides they have gone far too long without paying any attention to her, and she reaches a paw up to swat at Damian's nose. For a second, Damian is startled and then yet again his entire face breaks out into a grin, just as unrepentant as the last.]
I apologize, I should have considered your opinion as well. Is it alright if we take you to the clinic? [The words are directed at the kitten who gives a high pitched 'mew' in response. Damian nods seriously.]
Tt. Please. She has better sense then to take you at face value. [Also Damian is endearing the kitten to him with consistent scritches under her chin.]
[Damian follows him in, setting Elizabeth down on the table once they're inside and continuing to run his fingers down her coat.]
I'll need to find a bed for her. I'm sure I can find the blankets and pillows necessary in Haven North. [It's too bad there likely won't be any satin or silk available.]
[A harlot is more like. But estranged or not, Mother would never abide by him using such language to describe a woman and there are some parts of his upbringing that have stuck with him.]
I have never bothered to ask how she came to have that name. [And there's distaste in the way he says 'she' because Damian has never bothered to conceal his feelings about Selina Kyle. (Who is most certainly not and never will be his step-mother. >|
Even if she had great taste in animals.]
She is a thief. [Beat.] But she also makes it a point to rescue abandoned cats and provide homes for them. [Whatever, she gets a point for that he guesses.]

What's the matter, pal?

Come on, she must be hungry.

She is not going to sleep in a box, Barnes. [How barbaric.
They did need to find some things for her though so he follows along, never taking his eyes off of the ball of fluff cradled to his chest.]
Where do you think she came from?
no subject
That's a good question. She can't have been out here long, and there aren't any animals larger'n cockroaches. You think she came with somebody?
no subject
It's unlikely. [And there is logic behind that, he swears. It's definitely not just because he doesn't want to give her up.]
I suppose we can ask around. Later.

Very well, it is settled then.
no subject
Does she look like an Elizabeth to you?
no subject
Hmm, yes I think Elizabeth will do. After the Queen I assume. [Because why wouldn't the kitten be named after royalty, Barnes.]
Elizabeth? [The kitten bumps her head against Damian's fingers and he takes that as a confirmation.] From here on out she will be Elizabeth.
no subject
Can I call her Lizzy? [ the kitten looks up at him ] Aw, you don't like that, darlin'? Beth? Betty?
no subject
Damian's lips twist in displeasure and he rolls his eyes.]
Elizabeth, Barnes. Elizabeth. [Don't insult her, Barnes. She's royalty. The kitten rubs her face against Damian's neck and Damian smiles.
Adorable royalty.]
no subject
[ Playfully, ] Ma'am. Elizabeth. [ he nods to the kitten ] Don't mind him, he can be stuffy. I'm the fun one.
no subject

Guess we wait. Hold on, let me see if there's any water here.

[ He finds an empty bowl, and no water. Bucky pours some out for her from his own canteen, and places it squarely in front of Elizabeth. ]
no subject
I suppose she could. Have you ever had a cat, Barnes?
no subject
No. Have you?
no subject
Yes.]I wasn't allowed. Too much of a distraction. [And that is proving to be pretty accurate as he can not take his eyes off of the ball of fluff.]
Did I ever tell you that there is a Catwoman from Gotham? Far inferior to Batman of course.
